- 2009 – first few cases of minimal access (“keyhole”) spine fusion and instrumentation (MAST TLiF) performed after theoretical & practical workshop in Memphis, TN, USA
- 2008 - progressive introduction of minimal access spinal surgery after purchase of Medtronic Quadrant system by hospital
- 2007/2008 – Bloemfontein & Central South Africa’s (CSA’s) first 5 navigation assisted, neuro-endoscopic pituitary tumour resections performed
- 2007 – Bloemfontein & CSA’s first 3 DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) procedures for medically refractory Parkinson’s Disease performed after training in Paris, France and arrival of instrumentation
- 2007- Bloemfontein & CSA’s first 5-10 Balloon Kyphoplasty cases for vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) performed successfully (Dr Johan Wilkinson performed the very 1st one)
